Hi guys I'm new to these modern cars after years knocking about in retro fords i've decided to get a modern car. I've bought a 96 polo with an 1058cc AEV engine. Can you guys tell em if it's possible to change the sump pan without droping the exhaust front pipe. The reason i ask is the nuts that hold on the manifold are like mushrooms with the amount of rust on them? Any help would be great.

Just to answer my own question. You do have to remove the front pipe to change the sump. Also you'll need a set of allen keys with the balls on the end to remove the two bolts in the bell housing end of the the sump. There are two notches in the flywheel to get the bolts out.
All in all it's not to bad a job i did it in a couple of hours and thats with a couple of stripped out heads on the bolts. Also you'll need to drop the n/s drive shaft inner end to get to the bolts on the back of the sump, to to this you'll need a splined tool
