BEARING in mind. .

Post by CalvinGTI »

Put my 15" wheels back on me Gti last weekend and ever since ive had this very loud and virbrating type noise from me front left wheel.

The thing is i dont ever remember it happening when i had my 17"s on, would bigger heavier wheels make a difference to the noise it makes? i mean because the new wheel is smaller could it be echoing the noise?

this may sound 'thick' haha but would the old heavier 17" wheel push the bearing round easier so that it wouldnt make that much noise?

Now im not that much of a mechanic but to me it does sound like a bearing, as does it to other people.

Anyone know what kinda price these are for the GTi ?

Also other than feeling the wheel for movement is there other ways to check what it is without taking it to a garage for them to mess around with ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated !!! gotta get me car running smooth again, going Porsche Turbo shopping\test driving this Saturday with me bird !

WOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!

*does a little dance* :P

find a big empty carpark or a straight road (also empty) and drive the car slallom style! side to side to make sure u get enough car weight on each side!
if it is the laft front wheel bearing then it should make a grumbling kind of noise when u turn right!

hope this helps!

must be a wheel bearing gone, the way you drive it
jokes

in all theory the 15's would work the bearing hard because they are making more revolutions, but then you have the weight of the 17" wheels to put into perspective....hmm a tricky one indeed
