Hey all.

Need some help. I was driving to work today and was braking to slow down to take a corner. Anyway the roads around here are shocking and have lots of pot holes. My concern was that as i was braking and the wheels were going over the holes it felt as tho' my brakes were slipping on the discs.

I would think that the tyres would skid maybe but i wasnt going fast. I just wnet to brake and over the bumps the pads felt like they werent gripping.

What am i looking at?

Just sounds like the ABS to me? Could you be more specific? When the ABS kicks in you should be able to feel it through the pedal.

well my ABS light came on briefly on the dash one day, however its now off. It feels as if the discs are slipping through the pads. it only happens when the ground surface isnt even when braking , ie a bumpy road.

I would be ok if it was that i was braking down from excess speeds but i am not. Or if the tyres were losing grip that'd be explainable aswell.

Am baffeled. Could it just be the abs system? Wouldnt that happen on all occasions rather thank just on bumpy roads..?

Explain to me how it feels again?

I only ever get ABS to kick in on bumpy surfaces, or grids etc. Basically you can feel it clunking? On 3rd generation systems you can feel pressure pulses as it bangs the pads off the disc to prevent it locking. Early ABS just buzzed until your teeth feel out. Ours is much more subtle.

To disable ABS, pull your backseat up and you will find two connectors one on the right, one on the left, pull one of them out. This will cause an ABS sensor fault, the light will come on and ABS will be disabled.

Try again and see if its any different.

Then plug the sensor back in, and whilst your at it check that both are plugged in till they click. After a few hundred yards the ABS light should go out, when its satisfied that its working ok.

I will try that. where abouts behind the backseat? my light came on so it could be a lose connector.

Describng it would be that if you were braking relatively hard (but not hard enough to cause the wheels to lock up and skid) and you'd hit a bumpy surface the bads would feel like the jump back off the disc for a second. then back on.

I think its pretty much what you have described. Al tho it isnt a smooth thing it feedl gritty as if surfaces are rubing but not enuf to decelerrate the car.

Cheers i will try what u suggest.

Under the seat not behind it! i.e. on top of the fuel tank.

No, stuff you hand down the back of the bench seat, pull put all the crap, 1 pound coins, panties etc, then pull the seat forward using the finger hole, as if you were putting the seats down to put a big box in.

They are on there.
