I'm no expert (and await a correction/confirmation from someone a bit more learned), but if you hold the key turned in the lock for a few seconds then the front windows will go down. I'm pretty sure this is a feature not a bug.

I know that on the GTi if you hold the key in the unlock position then the windows roll down until you turn the key back and they stop, and the opposite, if you hold it in the lock position they go up.

Yep, that is a comfort feature fitted to most of the Polo's - its called total closure and works as described with the key in lock held or with some remote central locking fobs, you can hold the buttons for the same effect

I wish I could with mine, because I never lock it with the key, so I never get to use it unless I want to show someone.

You have a standard VW alarm fitted? If so, give it a go, hold down the unlock button and hopefully window should go down

or you have tried this already with no luck?

i dont think i explained myself properly, the door lock.. stripped it drop and found that the paddle part which operates the mirco switches had been damaged so the spring wasnt doing its job correctly, you can buy all parts to repair seperatly to buy a rebuild kit for about £13 from vw

I think there is a 3rd party pcb that can be installed to allow this function with the key-fob, see on ebay

Thankfully my votex remote unlocking does it already :P :)
