Alright guys :)

Been reading this awesome forum for the last week trying to get to grips with the 6N and all the cool mods people have been doing to theirs.

I just bought a red 1.4 CL but have absolutely no idea where to begin with it in terms of mods (its my first car   )

It seems most of you started by delocking yours so should that be the first thing I do too? And since I have 0 mechanical knowledge could I just take it to my local VW dealer and ask them to sort it or do you think I should get emailing the VAG crew and asking for some parts?

Secondly, I've got a little bit of cash but don't know whether to save for some fancy alloys, invest in tinting or spash out on some new lights? What do you guys recommend and is there anywhere I can read about walkthroughs for completely retarded newbies? I've read all the threads here and still find them a bit over my head

Cheers in advance for any help you can give.

firstly, check what your insurance allows in terms of modifications - some won't allow any at all, some will charge you extra, some will allow superficial mods only, etc etc.

i think most people start off with clear repeaters, mk5 red tail lights, new grill etc.

Thanks dragon_green. Its a good point about insurance, I guess I dont want to void anything by sticking a 30" spoiler on the back.

I think i'll follow your advice and get a badge-less grill. About the repeaters and tail lights, how easy are they to install? Can you get them fitted and if so where would I go? Could I turn up at a dealer with the parts and get them to fit it all?

side repeaters and clear indicators are a 5 min job that you can do yourself, just remove the current ones and pop the new ones in.

as for the mk5 red rears, they are slightly trickier, but theres a guide on the forum somewhere about how to install, its what i used when i did mine.

You dont want to be sticking a 30" spoiler on anyway, but yeah like the guys have said start with clean subtle mods, you dont really want to be spending shed loads on mods neither on a first car (not until youve been driving for a while at least) wheels are proberly my best first mod as they totally change the look of a car, get on fleabay and have a look. Go for some nice not too busy 15" to start with :D

Massive thanks for the guidance so far. Ordered a new grill and i'll post some before and after pictures later in the week to see if any of you can offer advice.

WalshC, I was only joking about the spoiler :) but thanks for the advice about the wheels. Your Polos looking stunning with the smoked indicators. How much did your alloys cost and have you lowered it too?
