Hi,

My Passenger side footwell is always wet.

It's not from anyone putting their wet feet on the floor when it rains.

It just seems to be always wet.

Could anyone tell me where the water may be coming from as I'm stumped so far.

Lift up the carpet and look about. Check the seals too.

Could be the rubber door seal around the edge of the door

It could well be a leak from your heater matrix. Does it taste sweet! If so its got antifreeze in!! If you don't fancy tasting it, then it may smell like antifreeze too

mine had a slight leak on the passenger side too...ended up bein the seal in the door, check the bottom of the door card and see if its wet or got water marks...theres a foam seal behind the door car that is to blame

EXACT same is happening to mine aswell; the doors are wide open and the carpet is up and drying as i type. Quit a bad fault and would love a solution.

Are both the vehicles with this leak in the passenger footwell, 16valves with air conditioning?????????

if so, check that the condensation pipe for the a/c is going through to the engine bay properly, as it is only a short pipe, sometimes it gets wedged in the fire wall, and the condensation/water will leak back into the footwell??

I'm afraid not, mine is an 8V 1.0 L; Dated 1997. I have, however, noticed that the water is coming through the slit that the window goes up and down through the side of the door. When i parked it the other way round on the drive yesterday, it stopped happening as the small holes at the bottom of the door let the water out successfully instead of trapping it in.

That probably sounds like a load of jibberish, but its only a short-term solution anyway. When the weather gets better i will take the inside door panel off and see if there is anyway of sealing the bottom.

hey...mine was leaking just underneath my glovebox...it was leaves blocking up the drainage under the bonnet...that might help...sorted my leak out!

Hmmm mines wet too. Don't think it'll be anti freeze, I was driving through shed loads of rain yesterday...leak somewhere, I'll try the leaves thing and I'll check seals.

I only noticed because when i went to get into the car in the morning, i realised that most of the cars in my street didn't have steamed up windows; where as mine did. So i checked for dampness and was rewarded with a puddle on the passenger-side footwell! I havent had the chance to check for leaves but im sure it coming from the door seal and not from under the glove box. Seems like 3 or 4 Polo's have had the same problem so far! VW should improve the QC department. What year is your's DScape?

Must just be a problem with most Mk4's then. Anyway i'm planning to take off the door panel and see whats going wrong (if the weathers kind at weekend)

Also, try checking that the two small drainage holes at the bottom of the passenger door aren't blocked as one of mine was; doubt it made a huge difference though, just a suggestion.

Nope mines just a 1.4 CL no AC.

Cheers for the advice guys, tomorrow should be a cold but fine day, I'm gonna spend some time looking at the sill and if any leaves are blocking the drainage holes.
