Gearbox oil for Mk 5 GTI

Hi to all,
I'm new to this great forum you have here & was wondering if you can help.
I just bought a Mk 5 GTI and was wondering what is the correct type & grade of gearbox oil for the car. Also, is the level indicator plug easy to locate?
Oh and any ideas where I can get a replacement Owners handbook.
