Spark plugs

im gunna get some new spark plugs for my 6n 1998 spec

what ones shall i get plz ?
how much do they cost ?
what are the benifits if any ?

get oem ones, spark plugs really make no diff, no matter what people say

"high performance" ones break

if you use the multi-electrode plugs, they should last longer than a single electrode plug. or so i'm told.

Spark plugs won't make much difference (if any) to the performance - so long as you start to combust the fuel at the right time.....

BTW, i've got Bosch Super4 plugs, but i'll be getting some OEM ones next time.

I've always used NGK, more than happy with them. Cost about £2-3 each depending on where you get them and who you know!.

I just changed mine, as the car was taking a while to start from cold. I changed the plugs and air filter, as VW hadn't done these for the previous owner in over 3 services (and over 25,000 miles!!!) Odd that when they were charged £500 for the last service!

I also cleaned out the butterfly in the air intake (common prob, gums up and doesn't seal properly) and reset the base idle.

Now the car fires up fab.

OEM ones are probably NGK or Bosch anyway. The only OEM ones i buy are the ford platinum ones for the zetecs. They make a big difference. (but cost me about £24 for 4)

I recommend NGK multi electrodes too - I stopped using Bosch ignition parts after too many bad experiences with their ignition leads, a lot of their parts are made in India now! Main dealer services are pants, mine went 79k miles without the cam belt being changed despite being serviced by a main dealer every year!

Oh yeah that reminds me, the main dealer hadn't even changed the cam belt, and i got the car at 89.600 miles!!! They serviced every 10-15,000 and the last service was at 89,000. They should be shot!

Anyway got myself a cambelt kit (tensioner and belt for £27) and fitted it last weekend. I can sleep at night again without the worry its gonna snap!
