I imagine labour won't be cheap and I'm also getting a service at the same time.

Yeah, they aren't are they, when I spoke to my dealer, they mentioned that when you have a new one fitted with them they VW will give you a discount for the old one..not sure why and can't remember exactly how much but check it out first as it may cost less than the aftermarket one (but not when you add VW labour charges!).

Makes you think, why not just go for a decat eh!

I guess its ripoff Britain at its work here, they know we have to buy it in order to get an MOT so just jack up the prices

I may be guessing here but is it cos you failed the emissions?

Normally a bloody good thrashing will heat the cat up and lead to a pass.

If it doesn't then in some cases you can "clean" it I'm not posting instructions here but if you have metalic monolith cats it does work - if FUBARs Ceramic ones tho!!!

yea, gsf is ~£190 plus fitting kit so no difference really.

it's not the emissions that's the problem, the flex joint has gone on the down pipe so is making a groaning noise.

with they'd have made the f*****g thing in 2 parts

can't even just weld another down pipe on, welds on exhausts make the bloody thing dissolve

Need some flexibility in the downpipe to allow the engine to rock - a fixed downpipe would eventually fracture

I sleeved mine with some universal flexi exhaust pipe and a couple of exhaust clamps to hold it all tight and it has worked fine for a well over a year - it's not pretty but it's gas tight

I didn't know how long it would last so have been looking for another downpipe and cat and got one off ebay for a tenner a while back!!!

It will weld quite well and not disolve as it's a low grade stainless steel
