Radiator Fan Question

Alright,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me at what engine temperature their radiator fans switch on? I can't seem to find the info anywhere.

I've recentely had a bit of a leak in engine and i'm worried its shorted the fan ciruitry since my fan never comes on anymore and my radiator glows bright red with heat after anything over a 20 minute drive.

My engine hasn't recentely got any hotter than 90 degrees (according to Coolant Temp Sensor), does the fan only engage at higher temps or does it look like I need to go rip a radiator off a recentely scrapped Polo?

Now then.

According to the Haynes manual the fan should cut in at 92C then spin faster at about 99C.

On another point, my car was running around 100C after the thermostat housing went and the radiator never glowed red. I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure that you'd need a temp way in excess of 100C to make a steel/ally (whatever it's made from) radiator glow.

Anyone else?

Thanks 99.

I'll take it out for a run later and take some pictures to show what the temp sensor is reading and what the radiator looks like.
