Just wondering what people are getting to see how much it differs from my 1.3 (40mpg in boring daily use). I'm guessing it should be similar as the 1.3 is too short geared for motorway use.

I had the 75BHP 1.6 in a Cordoba (Polo Saloon) and it used to do about 32 mpg to work across town and back. On a run it would do up to 40mpg. I think your 1.3 will be more economical generally. I now have a 1.4 8v Polo which is a good compromise, 38mpg locally - but not as economical as a multi valve Jap car. (IMO of course!)

My 1.6 would be pushing it to get past 3000 rpm at 70mph.
Not so sure as I rarely ever get the chance to drive at 70mph,
but at 60mph it sits at around 2700rpm.

Cordoba was pulling 3500 @ 70mph, same gearing as MKII Golf GTI
