Do you guys mean that it costs that much under your grandparents/parents names, or do you mean just add them under your name? 'Cause you only get no claims if its under your name innit?

Yep, you only get no claims bonus if you're the main driver.
But for most young drivers, one year's no claims bonus isn't going to save them as much as going on their dads insurance would.

The only thing is us being young is we're more likely to crash & drive like maniacs.
Thats why I decided to go on my own as tempting as it was to go with my dad but I didnt want to lose his ncb.
Just incase you crash init... you lose there ncb & they start from scratch aswell...

yeah better to go on ur own as soon as possible coz u save more money in the long run as u gain a ncb!
norwich union never give me good quotes!! i think they gave me £4k plus on a mk5 1 litre when i was 18!!

Good price for an 18 year old.
For me, at 19, the cheapest quote I got on my 16v was £1800 but then I do live in London
Or £850 as a named driver....

my insurance is about £57 a month with my mam as the policy holder, insurance companies dont like me - 6points, revoked licence, big crash and a claim

so no choice but to have mam as policy holder

Hi folks, i'm brand new to the site but liking what I see!
On the subject of insurance, my company (churchill) knocked £50 of my policy for putting my girlfriend on. Even though she's only 21 and has no no claims bonus... Guessing it's because girls are supposed to be better drivers.
So when you get a policy with you as main driver, try sticking your mrs / mum on for a little discount

Try Elephant (
http://www.elephant.co.uk). They're very good with young drivers, so long as the car isn't over fast. Can't fault the service either so long as you ring before 6pm (after that, you get routed to India).
Forgot to say, yes, put your mum and dad on as named drivers (so long as they've got good history) and it will go down.
