Alright man,
they're called bump strips and you can read more about their removal and possible problems when removing, in this thread:

I did this on my old mk4 polo, its best you remove them, u need clean them and sort of detox them.
You then need prime them sand down, wait till its completey dry the paint slowly.
Look good untill it got wack in the super market carpark then its started to crack and peel.

Thats some sweet advice Reeyad, thanks!
How did you match your paint colour? Did you just take it to a bodyshop and ask them to give you a can of paint the same colour? Or head to VW and give them your paint code or something?
Also, did you just use regular plastic primer or is there some fancy stuff?

Inregards to the paint I was lucky as I got me mk4 from a family member, who had a can of paint.
Yes u do need special primer, local halfords will have it.
I got it from clarkins, I dont knw if they are all over the uk, but there dotted around London.
I forgot to menton you have to laquer it afterwards.
I also did my front splitter was ok look good, but prone to stone chips, that was hard to get the shape back to what it was afterwards.
