Does anyone know or have tried a MK2 Golf G60 brake set up on there polo 16v. I can get hold of G60 280mm discs, G60 calipers and the hubs. Would they fit straight on the polo 16v or are the hubs different?
Thanks

I would think it'd work, seeing as the hot Ibizas of the same age come with the same G60 setup.

I'm sure they go straight on, but don't quote me on that.
I didn't help much really did I

Hi there
I looked at doing this a while ago, but couldn't go ahead because you need at least 15" rims to clear the calipers (I've only got 14"s). Doesn't look like it'll be a problem for you though. Apparently no need for calipers and hubs, just carriers, discs and pads.

Nice one lads, ive asked and for sale is the G60 calipers, carriers and discs so im guessing that using the G60 caliper would sort out the 2mm issue everyone seems to have.

Reckon G60 pads would probably sort it, but a full G60 setup is sure to. Let us know how you get on. God, I wish I could afford bigger rims...

Just picked up the brakes so im gonna fit them some time next week, the discs look massive compared to the polo ones, cant wait. Whats the thought on Red Brake Calipers yes or no?

i'm a tad bit late on this topic because i spend more time on porka..sorry.
But yes they will go on, all you needed is the G60 caliper carrier and your exsisting caliper then use 16v pads on a 280mm G60 disc of your choice.
sadly its a 15" wheel minimum now...
I have them on my mk4 and i've also replaced the brake lines for goodridge items:
P.s. the BBs wheels are my winters...and the discs are zimmerman cross drilled with black diamond predator pads.

It cost me £200 for the carriers, discs and pads from a Mk2 Golf G60. Not bad sonsidering VW wanted £86 each for the carriers.
It all looks a bit crap coz i didnt have time to paint them but will do it some time soon. Will fit the green stuff pads i got aswell but found it was too tight so am thinkin of what to do.

Did u find it a really tight squeeze to fit your pads in coz the discs are wider? Did you use new discs and pads if so how the hell did the caliper fit? How much were those zimmermans and where from? Sorry for all the questions.
Will post a how to in the diy section!!!

Ok i'll try to answer all your q's...
The Zimmermans were bought from GSF:
http://www.gsfcarparts.com/
With Club Polo discount they cost me £75 i think for the pair.
The pads are polo 16v pads as the G60 pads didn't fit due to me using my polo calipers.
The carriers attach to the polo caliper with ease...i think i got a bit complicated though because lying about i also had a set of mk3 Golf 16v calipers which were also painted gloss black and i don't really know which i ended up fitting but it worked anyway.
normally i've been told that you need to take about 2-5mm off the slider pins that go through the caliper/carrier setup.
the pads fit the zimmerman disc because the piston in the caliper was pushed right in when i took the caliper off. Your supposed to have a slight 1-2mm gap between pad and disc so the wheel turns and when you put your foot down then you get instant braking.
Hope that helps...Sanj.

BTW...since you have the genuine G60 caliper and carrier then you don't need to worry about discs and pads not fitting etc...just paint them red like you want and fit them to your existing hubs, the bolt holes line up fine.

Thanks Sanj for answering my 101 questions. I thought i might have to take some meat off the sliders, will do it one day. Ive got lazy so thats why i never fitted the G60 caliper, think i will do though coz it saves any messin and ill paint it first.
Wow just to finish it only has standard G60 discs and VW pads but ive just been on a run down some country roads late on and holy crap can these things stop. Every time i go out they impress me even more but tonight took the mick, i was braking twice as late as i used to and still came short of the corner!!!
