polo 16v idle problems

Hi I'm sure this questiond has been asked many times - my polo has developed starting problems and horror idle issues - it doesn't idle at all no problem when I'm moving but in London it's a nightmare. Was advised to change the temp sender unit which I did today - who said that was an easy job?? anyway to cut a long story short I had an 'issue' that resulted in my losing a load of coolant. Why do VW say that if the existing coolant is red it should not be topped up with a blue one - it's the same stuff right? I have had no choice but to ad about 1 litre of blue coolant to the system - is this going to cause problems??. The car is running fine and guess what ....has stopped stalling and idles properly!! thanks neil
