Does anyone know if the 1.4/1.6 8v gearboxes are the same as the 16v gearbox and would an 8v one just fit straight onto a 16v? If they are different ratios but would still be a sraight swap would there be any benefits?

Cheers

I believe they all interchange, and there are many different ratios

the 8v pre-98 models have a long ratio, about 3000rpm at 70mph

the 16v post 98 models have a short ratio - 4000rpm at 75mph

some of the 16v models have a longer ratio in too, so be very careful what you put in!
