I'd say dragon green but the paint on your car would probably have faded a bit in the sun light, so it will be lighter.

Jep, paint will fade in the sunlight, and will become a bit "lighter" then what it used to be, this explains the colourdifference you encountered. Visit your local bodyworks-repair-shop (with a spray-painter of course) and let then mix up a bit of the correct colour (the will be able to "mix" the colour a bit lighter, so you will have the correct colour)

It might be lack of light... will take it outside to see if its any lighter...
I understand taht obviously the cars original colour has faded over the years...

Well I had a lot of time to spare this week so I took some pics...
Pointless really... but here goes.
I started with my grille (which was black to start of with)
I then primed it (gray primer)
After that dried, I sprayed it.... twice....
Then the mesh was cut & fitted....
...I whacked it onto the car... and the finished product looks like this...
Overall Im not too happy & will probably be re-doing it when I can be bothered...

there's an art to spraying
where did you get the paint from?
also, it looks too dark but did you laquer the top coat? this can help a lot

hmm that might be it! halfords can be rubbish.
when I sprayed my spoiler, it was dark until I got a "wet" coat of blue at the end. this involved making sure the surface of the spoiler was wet with paint in one go - rather than paint drying in stages. hard to explain.
then the laquer was done the same way - if it dries in stages rather than in one go it'll look darker. have you got a gloss finish?

correction Halfors IS rubbish
I really recommend going to a local spraypaintshop, and let then mix up the right colour auto-lacker, then you'll be sure you've got the correct colour

Ive got a mate who works in halfords, he mixed some paint for me especially (Memory red pearl) - works great! Had to fix some bodywork a lil while ago...
