I am hoping someone can answer my questions, first of, when my engine is at normal temperature (1.4 8v), when the engine has been used and you come to a stop, when you dip the clutch, the engine almost stalls, picks up, hunts for a little bit before settling down ???
Secondly, do polo's suffer from airlocks in the cooling system, the reason I ask, for some reason my mota has started using water, I keep having to top up the system occasionaly, on a couple of occasions, I have filled up the bottle to the Max line and driven as normal, under normal acceleration, she starts to overheat, after a little while she tends to calm down. The head gasket went a little while ago so I know this is not a prob as I had it done.

possibly heater matrix or head gasket again

your first problem can be tackled in a few ways from what i've gathered here.

i think its the temperature sender problem as described a few times on this board

or you can try spraying carb cleaner in your throttle body

or resetting your engine management computery thing (unplug battery for 30 mins)

or replace your throttle body (but they're expensive)

or i might be wrong...

Doooooh!, found me probs. First off, losing water, when I replaced the head gasket, I forgot to replace the "O" ring that goes in between the cylinder head and the plastic bit where all the water pipes connect, was leaking from underneath so looked like the head gasket was leaking. Somehow, the water made it onto the Dizzy, found a couple of the HT lead ends rusty as Phuck. Next time I will learn to look properly. Thanks for advice anyway.

yea spray carb cleaner on ur throttle body to hopefully solve your idle problems, there's loads of posts about this

O.k. Mine had exactly the same prob, every time you stopped or dipped the clutch, the engine would die, idle was around 850 rpm but hunting slightly. Bought carb cleaner and followed all the suggestions on this site, BOOOOOOM!!!! went my throttle body, seriously though, my revs increased to 2000+ and hunting like mad. Followed all the suggestions about resetting the ECU ie, leaving the battery disconnected for 20 mins etc, no difference. Tiook it to my local garage and got them to plug the machine in, the car recognised it was over-revving and kept displaying error messages, every time he cleared the messages, they just kept re-occuring, result=phucked throttle body, soooooooo, off to euro car parts and ordered a new one for £199. When I got home, I decided to have a butchers at the throttle body, I wanted to find out exactly what effect it had on the engine, so, took off the cleaner and started to have a look. Car was revving away like mad, until, I disconnected the lead on top of the throttle body, revs went straight down to 8-900, with a smooth tickover, however, there is a slight delay in pickup, ie, when you blip the accelerator and while driving the car, accelerator is very jerky. This is a temporary fix for my problem until new body arrives, may not work for everyone, but worth a go.

Sorry, maybe I got it wrong, I thought you used bump on a post that hasn't been posted to in a while in the hope of someone answering, my sorry, won't do it again.

I know you are probably all sick and tired of people going on about the dreaded throttle body problem but I was wondering if anyone had any advice to give me as I do not know where to turn now. The last is I took the car to a VW main dealer yesterday, as the car continued to rev away like mad after having anew throttle body fitted(luckily the guys at Eurocarparts gave me a £200.00 refund as I took it back). Anyway, the main dealer did a diagnosis and told me that the car needed a.... wait for it........Throttle body, after explaining to the young lady that the car had already had a throttle body, she then told me that they couldn't be sure it was the TB and said it would be a case of "trial and error" finding the problem. I then asked her how much they would charge me, £506.00 parts and labour, this is not including the £78.00 I have already had to pay for the diagnostics. Do these people think we are made of friggin money. Anyway, I got the car home and decided to have a look myself, when the car is ticking over (2000 rpm), if I gently push the flappy bit down in the air intake (sorry, don't know the correct term) It starts to idle correctly, so I decided to take the throttle body off and have a look. I got the old TB cleaner out, removed the flappy bit completely and doused everything in TB cleaner and wiped everything away with a clean rag. Now, when you start the car, It idles around 1000-1100 rpm, when you blip the throttle, she takes a little while to settle back down to idling speed. Someone on here mentioned an "air pressure/temperature sensor", could this be it? Please, if any one has any ideas, please, I am desperate. Either that, or do you know of a good VW independant garage in southend?

Sorry, forgot to mention, If VW fitted the new throttle body and the problem was still there, I would still be liable to pay the £506.00, what BS is that.

£500+ diagnosis costs... damn... thats pricey

Did you try taking it to a more lower profile mechanics? I know most of them are cowboys but might be worth a try.

after i cleaned my throttle body it took a bit longer to calm down after the letting go of the gas and it idled higher than normal.


i've disconnected the battery and reconnected it and driven round a few days since (lol the 400 miles down south to visit my girlfriend) and now its idling at 900rpm and settles down just fine.

Im having the exact same problem after cleaning my throttle body, i've reset the ECU and it still idles at over 2000 rpm and then very slowly dips. I went to a VW dealer and they told me i could have an air leak?
