Hi! I would like to fit bigger brakes to my 6n. I currently have a 1.4 8v. I want to put 280x22mm rotors, preferably with larger calipers underneath my 16's. The rotors I want to buy new but im not sure how much i should be looking at. I read that someone upgraded just rotors and carriers on a 16v but is this possible on the 8v ? Isnt the calipers too puny on the 8v ?
Any help much appreciated

Hi there im back! I bought some complete front rotors/calipers from the scrappie. He told me theyre off a mk2 golf g60 but the diameter of the rotor is not 280mm, its slighty less. However the diameter of the overall item is exactly 280mm.
I am puzzled to whether ive bought the right thing or not, i will post a pic very shortly..

2 pics of the front brake setup... off some sort of mk2 golf, though im not sure if they are the right ones for the G60 conversion..
Can anyone help identify them? I need to know before i pull everything apart, and if theyre wrong i have to take them back asap and swear at the guy

Just measured the rotor- it came to 240mm
One guy told me the standard G60 rotor is 280mm so is this the wrong one??

Mk 2 Golf GTi 8 valves (and some early 16 valves I think) run 239mm discs up front. I don't know them to look at, but I'd reckon that's maybe what you've got there.

that does actually look like a mk2 golf 8v setup judging by the caliper bleed nipple.
I hope you didn't spend much on them
as put in the G60 brakes post...you need either full G60 calipers/carriers and then new discs and pads...OR
16v golf or polo calipers with G60 carriers to space them away from the disc and then fit the G60 disc and polo 16v pads.

Dub I have 8v engine I think its different from 16v. In the haynes manual the 8v swivel hub has a bit poking out of it over the rotor. I have 280 rotors ready to go on. The bit thats pissing me off is the swivel hub cos it wont let me fit these rotors. I think i need a 16v pair of swivel hubs first and then G60 carriers like you said but im not sure.
