Was you running it hard at the time, and I take it you have tried it again. Sometimes if they are working too hard for too long they'll go into protection mode, until they cool down, then come back on.
Have you checked all RCA connections, earth points etc?

it was on loud, but it was only running for about 5min before it went off, i've had it on for about 1hr before and its been fine...... the amp hasn't come on since it went off, i have re-connected and checked all the wires and the amp fuses....
the power for the amp hasn't come back on since.
the only fuse i havn't changed is the one that is near the battery (the big one that has its own clear plastic casing. But it doesn't look blown, the metal is still connected!!!
Help !!!!!

I got this reply on an Audio Forum
Well best to check that you have a 12 volt supply with a multi-tester or if you dont have one get a car lamp holder with a groung lead and a power lead and with a good bulb in it that will test for a supply . put the ground lead to ground and the power lead on the amp supply cable and the amp remote lead and the bulb should lite up the remote will light only whem the ignition is on

Just to alter what ModifiedMadness said, the remote lead will only light the bulb when the stereo is on, not just the ignition.

That's not always the case though, it depends how it's wired, my last one was wired to come on with the ignition not just when the engine was on.

What the amp turned on with your ignition rather than when you turned the stereo on? What would be the point in that? The remote wire should go to the blue & white lead on the back of the headunit, so's the amp comes on when the stereo does.
(did you ever get that xxx in your boot? I'm thinking about squeezing my SE18 in mine today...)

Not yet I haven't, I'm still waiting for the New XXX to come out (should be early or late January). With my last system the whole lot came on with the ignition, sub, amp, and stereo. and then all went off with the ignition.
Make sure you post some pics if you get it in then.

I'm not entirely sure, but i don't think the xtreme range is actually made by directed. I know there badged as one, but they just seem a little 'cheap' for directed stuff. I've always known directed as a very classy brand, and the xtreme range just doesn't look to the quality of their other products. Maybe its just me!
Take it back and buy a decent amp! I've always found the jbl amps to be really good value for money.

Price is usually a good indicator of quality, in theory, the more you pay the better it is.

ok, so i got a replacement for the faulty amp, and guess wot, the new one doesn't work either, it must be my earth, even tho it worked on that earth before.
Help !!!!!
mine is earthed on one of the screws behind the medic kit bit in the boot (the screw is a part of the back light, i noticed another screw, with brown wires attached to it, but it has been coated in paint and to take it off would be very difficult).
Do u recommend i changed that one ? even tho it has worked before on the one that its on now.

ok then, i have re-earthed my amp on the proper vw earth point behind the medic kit and its still not working. so that shows that it aint the earth thats causing the amp not to come on.....i'm really stuck now ???
please help !!!!!!!

The thing is, you said that when you used another amp, it worked? Have you done everything the same with this amp as the one you tried?
