Starter motor location on mk 4

Hi guys. A bit of a crap 1st post without introducing myself; my apologies.

I know my way around aircooled VWs, but today I have the honour of working on my polo for the first time, in the rain, in the dark, with a monster headache. I might wait till tomorrow..

Two questions; where is the location of the starter motor, and are they easy to replace with standard tools?

I've searched the forums with keywords, but not having much joy, folks.

Many thanks,
Michael

Bit of a cop out this but I just took a high-res photo of my Haynes manual for you. Click it for a bigger version which you can then download and zoom in on:

Noddy, that's just the ticket. cheers.
It mentions the removal of the inlet manifold on chapter 4; I'll see if I can remove it anyway.. my torch died on me just now, so I'll have a look tomorrow

You don't have to remove the inlet manifold

It's a s**t job BTW and if you are replacing the starter motor make sure you replace the bush in the gearbox bell housing!!!
