To be honest it would make more econmical sense to by a unit that u can take from car to car, as in time u will change your car.

I currently use a TomTom go 300, set up all poi's which inc speed cams alerts me with audio sound a 30 meters before the camera.

I have the VW MFD Sat Nav, had since April last year and have been pleased with it so far, I've not had a Sat Nav previously so cannot judge how well it works when compared to other units.

I can only assume it does what every Sat Nav should be able to do, it gives directions, both audio and visual, has a birds' eye view and directional view, I think some postcodes it will accept although I haven't really tried that, usually the street names are sufficient. The unit itself is well built and obviously being VW fits the rest of the interior. The sound is pretty good but probably better with uprated speakers! The CD rom that it runs from can be slow at times when searching for towns and streets but this I have been told is because of back-up copies, originals will be quicker. The screen is large enough and clear and tilts to suit the driver.

You can add DVD players, iPods, TV and PS should you wish but remember all this will add up as you will need to purchase additional units to make it work...and this can add up financially. so what you are paying is for a Sat Nav and radio as it doesn't even play CDs, you need to have a VW disk changer in the boot!

Overall I am pleased with the unit as I wanted it to remain OEM, without the clutter on the windscreen that you need to take out with you when you leave the motor and the option of upgrading maybe to a TV or DVD input but didn't realise how much it would cost! But for value for money...I would say it's not really value for money...for a Sat Nav for a similar price you could get better units...it's really what your priorities are...

If you are looking for Sat Nav only unit then a stand-alone one will most likely be better value and offer better functionalities as you have to realise these units have been around for some time and haven't really been updated and the newer cars, such as the MkV Golfs use a new versions.

If you are looking to add DVD, TV playability then I guess the MFD is a good option...if you have the money to purchase the additional units remember!

Hope this helps.
