Headlamp covers over xenons

Hi all,
When I drive the GTi at night I am often a little disappointed with the performance of the headlights, even when compared with my BMW which doesn't have xenons.

I suspect that the protective plastic covers may not be helping, as they will trap much and moisture between them and the lens.

Anyone driven with and without who can comment?

Cheers

I have new covers on mine which have not really made any difference in performance. A coat or two of Rain X on both sides helps

I'm convinced that there is a negligible drop in the performance of my xenon lights when the headlight covers are on too. Haven't got rain x on them though, might be a good plan. When there is a lot of moisture on them, from rain or from washing the car, I find that the protectors can steam up a bit.

Does help to keep the covers as clean as possible - even though its a bit of a pain having to remove them and clean them every time I wash the car!

Yeah i have a coat of rain-x on both sides of the headlamp protectors and also on the headlights themselves.

They do get dirty on the inside of them but if you take them off and clean them when you wash the car they'll be fine. Only take seconds to remove.

I don't think they affect performance any more than a normal dirty headlight.
