I've been quoted £345 for a 60k service. This includes

Cam belt change
Oil filter
Air filter
Spark plug change
And a few minor bits, fluid changes ect.

Is this a good price?
Trouble is it was only 6k from the last service. However it was a year ago and the cam belt has never been done, (its a 99). Its just £345 seems alot of money seeing as the only major thing is the cam belt.

How much of this service do you think I could do on my own?
Does anyone have the specification for a 60k service?

I'm pretty sure the cambelt change would cost fair wack by itself, there's quite a bit of labour involved.

So, to me.. that sounds a fair price

You could probably do the plugs and air filter yourself, the oil and filter change is a bit harder to do unless you happen to have a ramp

It was around £65 for a gates cam belt kit, and the same again for labour.

I cant really see what the other £200 was going on.

Im gonna do most of it myself I think, maybe excluding the cam belt.
Just bought a Haynes manual

that was roughly how much my 60k service was on my mk4, possibly a bit cheaper actually

seems about right to be honest... £150ish service and the rest on cambelt and labour... This is one job I'd say is best left to the pros but if you know what you're doing go for it

Yeah I wouldn't touch the cambelt unless you know what you're doing, alot can go wrong

To do the other stuff yourself you'll need tools though, and a good jack etc. Wouldn't trust the VW jack

My local parts dealer Motor Parts Direct quoted me £65 for a Gates cam belt kit, but just phoned the VW dealer and a genuine timing belt is only £52.88 inc VAT!

Im trusting my dad to do the timing belt. He usually services his Land Rover, and he's done a cam belt change on a transit before so we should be alright.
