found a polo with an apparant NZ engine code.. it has the gt style inlet and airbox that all looks standard.. How much BHP does this have and what cam/throttle body/injector rail style it has??

they look identical:

Both the AAV and NZ engines have a stated 55bhp. But the NZ is well known for being nippier and having more torque. The Cam and inlet manifold on the NZ could easily be changed to GT items having a decent improvement. Also putting in one of Poloaces chips and a decat won't hurt either.

cheers revis i have purchased the car and im glad uve confirmed its worthy of tuning. Im wondering, asi have a 5 speed coupe S Box, and the one on this NZ, which one is going to be lower ratio'ed.. and which will have top end. so if i have any questions ill be back :) as for a GT cam and a chip does anyone haveone laying round?

I now have this engine, a coupe S engine, and thee HB 1.1 that i was originally running. and after reading through some old topics, i can see some people have used a coupe s head on the gt.. would this work in the NZ and what cam would fit it then? and what inlet manifold can i use.. will the NZ one go on the S head? or try and find a GT inlet. I have too many ideas with this :D:D

decatted NZ (mk2) is 64bhp. Responds well to a GT cam, People only run coupe S heads to retain the use of a carb. The ports and so forth are identical. An NZ manifold is more than adequate on an NZ, a GT one is overkill IMO as tuned NZs will only make around 80bhp with the GT cam and a rechip, whereas a GT with similar mods will be closer to 90, and the standard heads seems to be more restrictive than an NZ manifold?

yea man got the car today, tried it to the end of the street and back and theres no comparrison to the SPI im running. Im gonna put it in and run it standard to make sure its ok, then i think ill look towards a cam, chip and exhaust system.
cant wait to get on with it after testing it earlier though!! so damn torquey ive never felt anything like it 8).
Would i be ok to leave the 1.0 fuel pump as its alot quieter on start up? or might that cause me to under fuel, ill try it anyway as the pump on the NZ sounds shafted...
OH also would i gain anything from decatting, as the bloke in the MOT station confirmed my car didnt have a cat test (although theres one there). i have a nice S manifold and downpipe i could weld a nut onto for the ole lambda.

hhmm tasty, yeah defnitly isn't 55bhp. I'm gunna have to get mine de-catted. I don't think the normall poloace chips fit though, because the ECU is different...

I got the AFM and airbox off it and can see i im gonna need some threaded rivets to hold it in. the AFM looks very restrictive is there any larger substitute with a bigger bore for it? :P the ecu looks the same just a different sticker.. is it the solder in type chip or something?? the cars a K plate if that helps

Personally, I don't think they are worth spedning too much money on unless you wan't to be different. GT engine conversion packages come up for reasonable money and theres more scope for future tuning with that setup.

well ive all ready got my NZ and they seem to go cheaper than GT's!!! ive tested it and im happy with the way it performs, i think i might just come to the next rolling road day to see what its pulling with a few tweeks. Im thinking of writing a how to on a MPI to GT/NZ swap so keep an eye if anyones interested.
