Its Sunday. You're bored. 'nout to do. How about...

http://www.trackmanianations.com/indexUk.php :?:

Free download, albeit around the 270MB mark, and free to play, and it's very very good!

I've been playing since yesterday, under my forum name of Si_GTi if anyone is also playing and spots me - I play the GBR nation servers when I'm online. Once you get into this, it could easily swallow an afternoon! :D

I'd love to, but....

IT FILLS YOUR PC WITH SPYWARE..... and is infamous for it.

Some kind of anti-piracy thing that eats your CDRW drive* (regardless of what you're using the drive for). Well intentioned, I'm sure, but the outcome is not good. And you need to have it installed before the game will play, so simply using a spyware blocker won't help.

Pity, as i REALLY liked the look of it and was moments from downloading it before I found a review that had the warning in.

For similar stuff, try Racer or LFS (Live For Speed) - other customisable internetty racing games that are a bit more benign.... hmm, i feel like a quick blast, in fact.

* I think it was this one with TM... though it might have been another game. However, regardless of what actual flavour it is, I still cancelled my download and haven't gone back near the site because of the hidden payload and some unhappy consequences it may cause.

That game is awesome, better than GT4 in fact

The attention to detail is spot on, even though the cars are fictional, it doesn't matter.

It's great being able to race people online, best of all most users are Europen as opposed to arrogant American pricks!

And the drift servers pwn!
