Anyone on here help? Just found out that while away from home the local council have stuck a road name sign on my land, can they do this without permission? Can I ask them to remove it? Can I ask them to put it on the side of my house instead and high up so it's visible above the car port I will be putting up?
Advice needed please
Jon.

If it is definitely your land you are within your right to remove the sign making sure you do not damage their property. I also believe they have to put good any damage to your property.
Best to speak with someone at the office's before you remove the sign, as usually if they want to put something on land they do not own they have to send a document requesting permission to do so.

Cheers for that, gonna double check with the land registry first then call the council offices on Monday. Luckily I have a copy of the title deeds showing where the boundaries are.
I just wish these people would have the common courtesy to get in touch first rather than just blunder in.

the sensible response to this trespassing is, of course, antipersonnel landmines planted in your lawn in a particular pattern known only to you, your family, and closest mates.

Result, had a grovelling apology from the heed bummer of roads. Now going to move it and put it where I suggested. Up high on the side of me gaff, that way I can still get me carport built.
