Immobiliser query

Post by squirrel »

First off, thanks to all for all the info on this site, especially the buyers guide from pettsy.

Just bought a 1997 1.4 16v and having a minor insurance problem, basically I've got Direct Line on one hand saying they won't cover the vehicle for theft until I provide documentary proof that the car has an immobiliser, on the other, I've spoken to 3 VW garages who say immobilser's were standard on all VW's from 1995, and they haven't a clue what all the models Direct Line have on their computer!?!

Anyone had this problem? If so, how have they got around it?

Seems like they're just being akward. Perhaps ask a member of VW to comfirm this for you with a stamped VW letter and send it to them.

Or option 2...which is what I'd do.... Try another insurance company.

Good Luck!

LOL

If they're that awkward trying to cover a standard immobilizer, imagine what it must be like trying to make a claim

f**k them off mate, waste of time.

Go with someone who knows the cars, like Brentacre.

I think they must pick and choose what they are like with people.

My mum and dad are with Direct Line and have had no problems at all, either with claiming or re-newing etc.

Insurance companies are like women, one minute they'll blow hot then the next they'll blow cold

To all women reading, please don't hit me

Thanks for the replies, I tend to agree with most of you, especially ModifiedMadness.

Unbelievably they called me back this evening and said it was their mistake! Anyway that's one thing sorted.

Oh, I would go somewhere else, but they are quoting less than £400 per year with this as my main car, unlimited mileage, named drivers, London etc. which beats all other quotes hands down!
