There's a gig on in Bar Firefly (Millstone lane, somewhere around the centre, fraid i don't know the town hardly at all) that I fancy going two, the mighty Ska power of 7 Seconds Of Love colliding headlong with the deeply middle british mildly folk Rock tendancies of M J Hibbett and the Validators, and some bunch of chancers called New York Scum Haters.

Should be cool if you dig the tunes. Bar's open til 2 if not. Though I'm hoping to cadge a bunk at my dad's new flat, I hate being alone at such things even if the people I'm with I don't really know. Anyone fancy it?

(the libidinous best-mates-sister already expressed an interest - yeah i know, give me a rope and the first thing i'll probably figure out is how to hang myself - so need people to hide behind :D)

nah, im not in any of the bands, its not a plug, though packing it out would be cool

http://www.mjhibbett.com, http://www.7secondsoflove.com and, i assume, http://www.newyorkscumhaters.com for details of the gig and the band, and in at least two cases, example mp3s. The bar's changing it's name at the moment, i think the site is still http://www.barfirefly.co.uk though?
edit: NYSC (dangerous acronym that) are apparently a ramones tribute act, but done by british guys. should be fun, especially if Helen Love make an unannounced guest appearance. And there's also a money off flyer to be had for gratis http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b386/ ... rSMALL.jpg

this may be the biggest mistake of a post i ever make, but... screw it. i can always quickly delete it and turn it into something about kittens instead

god, how expensive are the taxis there really?

i'm going to this, gonna crash at my dads, just found out he's not actually in the burbs like i thought but in a little village about 12 miles south (he only moved like last week and was vague on the whole thing). Apparently a taxi out there from the centre is like 70 to 80 quid!

That's mad - i live about 9 miles out of birmingham on slower/more complicated roads and it's never been more than £18 (i can pay & tip the driver with a 20 note)

jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesus.... so looks like i'm going to be bunging my own father a twenty to keep him sweet on picking me up at like 2am, after driving me there in the first place (as parking is also allegedly chronic)... :D

eh up, you missed a proper one, ah tell thee tha' fer owt.

the punk band were competent enough, but failed to ignite the crowd.
combination of work pressure, exhaustion and a sudden bout of Teh Fear meant I missed MJH but apparently they got a massive singalong going :D

and 7SOL rocked the f**k out, goading everyone into enough skanking action that apparently plaster dust was raining on the downstairs bar... heheh

pretty nice drinking hole, too
