This may sound daft but being a 3dr vehicle are you sure that the child lock is not enabled on the passenger door? if not then it maybe just a case of removing the inner door card and seeing if the mechanism is attached from door handle to the lock on the inner side of the door

hello
right firstly, its a fairly cheap fix had this happen to me, what happens is that theres a castle type spacer inside the door lock which holds the spring in place this has probably broken

you do not need to take off interior door panel

open the door, look where the handle is on outside of door, and just inside recess of door you will find a torx headed screw remove this, then holding door push the handle towards front of car until no further then with draw the lock part from door and then front part of handle door handle is free.

you will be able to see it all broken up, as i can remember theres:

c shape clip sorry no part no. which holds paddle in place
paddle part no.6n0837223a which turns solenoid to lock door
spring part no.6n0837229a
castle type spacer part no.6n0837238c know as a carrier

it is best to order all of these parts no more than £7 from vw and should have in stock, also ask for diagram on how it all fits together they printed one of for me

its abit fiddley to put together have key in lock hold in a vice, you'll need a mate to give a hand also, took me about 45mins to get right so dont lose heart in it

passengers rear door,as rich says have you checked the child lock on rear door, open door and you should find a small latch, move this (it could be in wrong postion) made have been court when cleaning
any more help required please ask
