If you get an aftermarket steering wheel, u have to by a boss with it aswell. This converts ur usual steering wheel fitment to the aftermarket one. Easy to fit will take about 20mins max.
Hope this helps.

i did walk into halfrauds to ask which boss kit i would need, apparently its the momo 8015 for our mk5's. its £45+VAT so quite pricey. another concern is you lose all the protective functions of your airbags, including the passenger's side. i agree that it might be an easy fit but everyone is discouraging me from doing a DIY on it as theres a good chance i might end up in the hospital if i accidentally set off the airbag from the stock steering wheel. so to summarise... £45+VAT(boss kit), £100+VAT+P&P(momo steering wheel), £50+VAT(labour to have it fitted). roughly should we say... £230 to have a decent aftermarket wheel! hehehe! posh innit?!

im all for ppl moddin n styling there cars and i have taken the momo route in the past with my old golf. To tell you the truth i wouldnt even bother now and for the hassle of the airbag well says it all really - if you want to do something get it re-trimmed or an oem leather one

my dad has a s reg gold gti and ive drove it a little befor and i reckon the steering wheel on that is nicer then my mk5 one. but obviously im not gonna bother changing it mainly as my wheel has an airbag and it could be wat saves my life one day.... who knows. however i have seen some nice steering wheels on ebay recently not to tacky looking silver and black. but im not changing it.
