Right i posted a bit ago about a tapping noise, well ive gone to have a look today (had too much stuff on and the weather has been bad). It runs for a couple of minutes then cuts out, won't start for 3/4 minutes then runs for a few again.

Theres still this horrible knocking/tapping noise coming from the front end of the engine, but its not the manifold gasket like i originally thought.

Aswell, i had the head gasket done a few months ago (2 or 3) and now theres oil comin from the head gasket just above the alternator (next to the timing belt)

I can't figure out whether these are alll small problems at the same time, or just one big ass f*ck of a problem. Im getting to the point of going ah screw it and bombing the car into a scrap yard, but ive spent too much money on it now!

Any ideas would be massively appreciated. Thanks chaps :(

whats the cars history like at this point? e.g. you had it from new and done a gentle 40k with lots of TLC, or just bought it with 90k on the clock from some shady looking feller in the pub and did the gasket because it was squirting oil everywhere, etc :)

I bought the car with 92k on the clock, the lad i bought it off is a mate and said its been well looked after. It seems like all the problems have come about since the garage did the head gasket, jus found that theyve left a nut off one of the cam bearings too.

*RANT!!!* Whats the point off paying someone to do a job for you if they do a total cowboy job. I couldve done a better job but just didnt have anywhere to do the gasket...as it turns out now im probably gonna have to get the head off anyways now, so i may aswell have NOT paid 300 quid to get the gasket done in the first place....Argh! *END RANT LOL*

i done 2 headgaskets on our polo...im quiet experianced at mechanics too

anyway it p1ssed oil everywhere after the first one, so i figured i must have made a booboo..took it all off, checked everything and fitted a new gasket and bolts....still leaked badly

out of desperation i cranked the bolts up another 5-6 ftlb....SORTED  dosent leak a drop :?

and that was with a frshly calibrated tooque wrench too....worth a try

hmmm, if i'm gonna try that ill have to look at getting new head bolts first as im not even sure they replaced them when they did the gasket and if theyre old ones they will snap....which is not what i want lol

Thanks for the idea :)
