Hi guys

Anyone done this and where have you drilled the holes? Is there any increase change in noise/performance.

Cheers

Drilling holes won't help, because then your engine will start "sucking in air" from under the bonnet, which is hot air (since your engine heats up to about 90/100 degrees Celsius), and hot air contains less oxigen per cubic inch then cold air.

It's more effective for performance to build a sort of ram-air system on your original filterbox, my suggestin is use the grill, then a straight connection unto your airbox, using the samen diametre as the connection on your air box.
Another possibility is an induction kit, but this also sucks hot air from under the bonnet, but it does make an AWESOME sound! I'd suggest a K&N one.

Buttah.......just an airfilter won't give you that much more power, 2% on 60bhp aint that much

Yo cheif, I drilled my air box, only on the back, near the rear of the engine bay. With a K&N replacemnt filter, got a really good induction noise. But its running a tad lean, but its all good though.

I wouldn't do it, as Jarno says all it will be doing then is sucking in hot air.

That why they don't have any holes in them when they're made!

I was tempted to this as i have a spare airbox so in the event that it fails i could have bunged the other on.

The real reason for wanting to do it is because i am missing my old GTi BADLY and was looking for a bit more of a sporty engine note.

Being as i have a spare box i might give it a go if i get some spare time and then bang the original one back on when the insurance is settled and i come to sell it.

Cheers for the input guys :D

here one i did early :D there is a little bit of difference, picks up alot better & response is sharper also give nice induction noise.

Looks to me that they were used from a Golf mk 3 1.8 litre engineblock, I've got the same part lying around here somewhere
