Iv got a mark 5 8v 1 litre with standard steels on. Now id like some bigger brakes for better breaking power anyway. Any suggestions, polo gti brakes? How big are these and what will i need to change em parts wise? Will they fit straight on?

Hey, i own a 9n, and my pads and discs only have around 2000 miles left on them really, so im juts gonna get some fast road pads and drilled and grooved discs,i found a set that are atchually cheaper than my stock parts, and this will give me beter braking, hopfully, so might be a idea to go down that route? but i'll let you know how much improved braking i get..

Hi Phil, I know this is a bit late and I don't know if you're still looking, but...
Polo GTi/16v brakes use 256mm discs. Unfortunately for you (as far as I know) in order to change to these you would require new hubs, calipers, carriers, discs and pads - not cheap and a bit of a job.
If you do as inthoughtwelive suggested and get new discs and pads, you should notice a decent improvement in braking performance. Grooved discs for yours start from around £50 a pair and fast road pads from about £35 so while it's not exactly a pocket money job, it shouldn't break the bank. There are different people's opinions about which brands to use scattered around the board...
Thanks
Andrew
