Can VW flip keys be programmed to work with the GTi?

The GTi I'm buying only has one key. I'm not happy about only have one, in case there's a problem etc.
Been looking a uncut new-style VW flip keys tonight, do you think I could get that cut and get the lock/unlock buttons to function with the 6N2 central locking?
Or should I just stick to tracking down a normal style VW key, like the one it already comes with?
Thanks,
Steve

Basically from what I made out from what VW told me is that they don't cut or programme the keys, they order them to your chassis number and they come ready cut and programmed for I think it was about £140.
So yes you can buy an un-cut and un-programmed one but no VW won't cut or programme it which is a s**t because I was going to do the same.
In conclusion I think that you could get one from VW but it would cost you.

Bugger! That's a real shame. I'll check with my local dealer tomorrow, but I'll prepare myself for the worst
Thanks,
Steve

Yep - I'll report back. For info, are the two standard GTi keys both remote, or is one just standard?

Well i bought a flip-key from ebay and ordered the blade from my local VW stealer.
Cost about £7 for the blade and all the parts guy needed was the reg number and proof the car was mine, i.e the V5 document and i.d.
I swapped the transponder chip from my spare key to the flip-key and it starts my car no problem.
Only problem is it won't lock or unlock the car from the remote. I've tried all the 'How2's' on programming it but to no avail.
I imagine it's a case of getting the stealer to program it but i've not asked yet cos i know they'll charge a fortune.

I just got a quote for a standard key for now, getting everything done by VW. I'm not prepared to mess about with ones from eBay. Came to £96.
When I actually get it done, I'll ask if a flip-style key is any more cash. If it's not a massive amount more, I might get one of those done.

Did this on my old Polo and even had the remote working to lock/unlock, drop the windows, open the sunroof, the whole lot.
