Hi uk-polo'ers,
I've been a member over at uk-mkivs for a few years. I'm supposed to collect a MY03 9N TDI - its the 100.
I have briefly driven the car and it seems well. Is there anything in particular that goes wrong with these cars???
Its probably been asked a zillion times before. But I also wanted to ask around what tuner to use for it, REVO, AMD etc and why.
I've previously always used AMD for my other cars.
My local REVO dealer is in Thurrock...around 12 miles or so from home.
Any help is much appreciated.

Hi there
A few thoughts on remapped PD100s:

I can't compare mine to any other map apart from standard, sorry. It's also a while since I've driven a vRS so my memory's not entirely fresh - it feels similarly quick from what I can remember, but a definite improvement over standard.
Some common issues with 9ns can be found in Mole's guide here:

As for things going wrong, I hope never to find out. I've only had the car just over a month, but I can offer my opinions on shortcomings:
Wallowy suspension - too high, too soft
Average brakes - for a fairly quick, fairly heavy car, they're not great. The carriers are part of the hub assembly, so going for bigger discs looks like a pricey and less-than-straightforward operation. That said, I've just fitted uprated discs and pads and, even though the pads aren't fully bedded in yet, the improvement is big already. Well worth doing in my humble opinion.
You may get more replies if you post your queries in the 9n section.
Hope you enjoy the car,
Andrew

Thanks 99. Can you please tell me which brakes you went for and why?
I'm contemplating black diamond combi discs and pads - I favour these because they look pretty neat too.
But any ideas what EBC ones are like.

Hi there
I went for ATE PowerDiscs and Pagid Fast Road pads. As for reasons, with the discs it was a toss-up between the ATEs and Brembo Max - both are about £75 a pair and I've used them both before on other cars and been happy with them. Neither of them cost the earth, and both have stood up to abuse.
Pagid fast road pads are around £50 a set or less. I've had them on my last 4 cars and they're absolutely brilliant - definitely my first choice every time. I strayed from the path and tried some EBC Greenstuff on my 306 and I found them to be rubbish - no pedal feel, unpredictable. Just really didn't get on with them. That said, they didn't make much dust and some people seem to like them. The Pagids make quite a bit of dust, but they stop the car very, very well and that's a whole lot more important to me than having to clean my wheels every week...
I've got the part numbers if you want anyway. There's quite a bit written all over the board and the web about which discs and pads to use - try the Chassis section and the 9n section on here as a starting point.

Cheers yet again. Would you mind pm'ing me your supplier or recommend somewhere I could get things for that price.
I'll probably go the same route as you because it doesn't sound like it'll cost the earth.
The TDI's at VW dealer for service (going through a VW tech friend) and its await cambelt bits for service. So I'm looking to get the brakes done whilst its there.
