Headunit Problems

I've been having problems with my headunit, its a Pioneer DEH-890 (14 years old :D WOOT!) but it plays CD-R's and CD-RW's, problem is its more than powerful enough but when ever i go over a slight speed bump, or even a bloody drain in the road, the music stops as the CD gets knocked about inside, so it stops playing and tries to find itself again once ive stopped driving over a stone or something..

Is this because it has no skip protection?

Also when i put the volume 18+ or over (goes upto 35), 18 is pretty loud..
the sound from the speakers sounds like its skipping every 2 or 3 seconds or so, so u get singing --break-- singing --break-- e.t.c

v.annoying, is this because its dying, old and crap or is it something else?

- Radio works fine over 18+

Thinking bout buying a new one, if i do i want good skip protection cos my mates doesnt do that in his panda 1990 and thats got a 2 year old cd player in..

you should ahve a littl eknobby at the back of it which should be connected to the car with a rubber thingy, this stops vibrations by absorbing them, also, i think what you are saying when you put the volume above 18 is due to the speakers not being able to handle that power, the head unit its probz 4 x 45w max and the stock speakers are prbz like 18w max if they are standerd, hope that helps, cant b bothered to write properly btw im tired lol

Well the Headunit is a Pioneer DEH-890 4x30W as it reads on a photo i have of the lecy label on it..

i brought it secnd hand off ebay for £26 and its 15 or 16 years old, and now wont play CD-Rs..

My Speakers are Sony Mutant X 150W RMS per channel 6x9s.. so think they can handle, its only when i put the "LOUD" function on which gives extra bass.. as u cant manually control bass or treble.. and the radio doesnt work on it.. LOL

think i just need a new headunit!

yeh i do..

it's not the speakers though as i've hooked them upto a friends new Pioneer £250 thing and they work sweet..

You think even a cheap one say @ £70 will be better than the one i've got? i presume so? i'm only running the two 6x9s
