Headunit Problems

I've been having problems with my headunit, its a Pioneer DEH-890 (14 years old
WOOT!) but it plays CD-R's and CD-RW's, problem is its more than powerful enough but when ever i go over a slight speed bump, or even a bloody drain in the road, the music stops as the CD gets knocked about inside, so it stops playing and tries to find itself again once ive stopped driving over a stone or something..
Is this because it has no skip protection?
Also when i put the volume 18+ or over (goes upto 35), 18 is pretty loud..
the sound from the speakers sounds like its skipping every 2 or 3 seconds or so, so u get singing --break-- singing --break-- e.t.c
v.annoying, is this because its dying, old and crap or is it something else?
- Radio works fine over 18+
Thinking bout buying a new one, if i do i want good skip protection cos my mates doesnt do that in his panda 1990 and thats got a 2 year old cd player in..
