Can this be removed to be replaced with an aftermarket headunit?
is it easy? and can it be fitted easily to a lesser model mark5 i.e. not a GTi
Seen a few GTi's with satnav but i like my amps and would rather have a decent aftermarket headunit than have satnav
cheers

Yes it can be replaced with an aftermarket headunit, I dont know how hard or easy it is. The MFD VW sat nav unit will fit on the 6n2 also, it needs an adapter loom though but they can be found on ebay amougst other places.

This should be dead easy to pull out and swop for either a 1 din or double din head unit. Depending on your new head unit quality of manufacturer they should supply you with an ISO adapter. If not they are cheap as chips to pickup from any reasonable car audio supplier. For the single din unit you will need to either purchase the facia storage space that fills the bottom space, or raid a scrap yard if the budget's blown on the head unit!
As for your concerns about the speed sensor etc, the speed sensor is on the ISO wiring loom that the head unit attaches to (Pin 1 Adapter A usually) this is sent through one of your standard wires and won't need to be cut. it will remain part of the loom that will attach to your new head unit.
My question is why not have both? I have and it's superb! best of all

can you have both? does the sound from satnav not come thru the speakers? only reason for wanting to change is for RCA outs for my amps, i d like a bit of SQ so want it done properly not using lineout converters etc..
cheers for the help mate

You can have both but you will need to go custom build and you'll need to go aftermarket for a good job. This will also require an IP-BUS Interconnector in order to get the sound from say a DVD Navi or something like that. If you like SQ you should never use standard equipment anyway!
