mk4 pedal box

Hi guys

done plenty of searching about pedal box on here, my birds broke hers. Was welded once but seems to be less effective. I was thinking of gettin a 2nd hand one (anyone got one) or new and fitting it. Thing is i think the colum needs to come off and mr haynes seems to chat about some sheer bolts which sound like hard work. Is it possible to just drop or lower the colum at steering wheel end enough to change box??

Thanks

GT

well done it without forum help!! answer my own questions to help future forum members... is a b***h of a job... colomb has to be lowered by removing shear bolts and unhooking from pedal box.. pedal box is then not to bad to remove once the piston has been released from back of break pedal.. in my case in bits which resulted in a new plastic insert!

thanks for ur help guys!! ;)

sorry dude, i might have replied had i been on here any time in may and seen it... but it would only have been to offer an electronic shrug. when mine went, it was the first time i'd ever heard of the thing, and just took it to a garage to get sorted as a rush job (as it knocked out my clutch and footbrake, just a teeny hinderance when working nights somewhere six miles away without public transport - got home/to garage by bumping it on the starter in second, crawling at 20 and using handbrake).

never did fully figure out what they did with it apart from welding it back in place, and as the name "shear bolt" suggests, compensating for some threaded sticks of metal that had broken off. it got a touch wobbly again before i moved the car on, but still seemed solid.

it's a mystery!
