Hi, I have a polo 1.1 (R 1998) only had it a short while. (it’s the wife’s) I need to change the Timing belt, I'm wonder if the belt drives the Water Pump - and is the Water pump the adjustment for the belt? The cars only done 51,000miles.
I was thinking of changing the pump because it appears noisy!

Moved to mk4 section. a 1998 R reg would make it a mk4!

firstly, welcome to the forum!

as for the cambelt, i would imagine that it would drive the water pump. i certainly no that this is the case in the mk2's and mk3's so i would imagine it would be the same! hopefully someone in this section should be able to help you out!

oh, and i didn't think the mk4's came with a 1.1??? :?

Regards
Doug

Yeah it's more than likely a 1.0 litre, next model up was the 1.3 (rare) and then the 1.4 8v

When changing the cambelt definately do the water pump as well

I need to get mine done asap, the last owner had the belt done but not the water pump, and if either one goes it apparently has the same consequences

Yeah, do both the belt and waterpump, i had both done in jan, in the garage tthey told me i should have both done as it's all like linked n stuff.
mine is a 1.4, but should be all the same! i cambelt, fan belt, all the belts, power steering pump and water pump all and it was only £475 inc labour, and the car felt like new!
