okay, Large or small and fat? Looking through some questions and answers. n to be honest, i'm lost! Whats the biggest wheels that can go on dropping it 35mm without rubbing? Or maybe i will go small and fat, whats the biggest and widest i could go dropping it 60mm :?

Rubbing depends on lots of factors. First and foremost: Wheel and tyre size. Also important are ET and wheel width and in some cases the brand or model of tyre you choose will have an effect too.

Drop has an obvious effect, but that's hard to compare. I bought a kit that should have dropped the car 40mm, but I can barely get my finger in between the tyre and the fender. So that's definitely more than 40mm.

The 'safe' options are (and correct me if I'm wrong)

185-55-14 on 6x14 ET 35
195-45-15 on 7x15 ET >30
195-40-16 on 7,5x16 ET 35 (cutting it close due to the width of the wheel)

Anything wide (8 or 9 J) will cause some rubbing, or some serious rubbing, depending again on drop, wheel size and ET.

Do you have any ideas on wheel and tyre sizes? Maybe we can help you in specific cases.

Well its like this, if for instance i were to go small and fat i would like it to look something like pic no. 14 in picpost-enjoy the eyecandy Forum Index MKIV polo.and the wheels would be OZ Volcano's if poss.

But if i were to go Large it would possibly be TSW EVO R's.

U see, up here in scotland everybodys busy going large. Where i would prefere to be different and go small and fat. But somethings telling me i may be biting of more than i can chew going small and fat!

go with small and phat..euro styleeeee!

actually u dont need to go that small......go for 7.5x16 with 195/40/16 tyres and a 60mm drop and it will look sweet as! and the oz volcanos will look cool!

thats the size i have got on mine (well or order) but brock b3's...but with a 80 mm drop :D

Well, I like both styles, although 16's are the biggest that still look good IMHO. Some 14" wheels are jaw-dropping material, I'll dig up some examples. With small and wide, you're more likely to run into rubbing problems, as your car should be low (on the deck) to pull it off. Semi-low with small wheels looks bad, I think.

These pics may take a while to load, if they are red-x's hit refresh.

15" Ronal R10 (Turbo's)

Schmidt Revolution Th-line in 15", look at the width of the back wheels!

14" PLS Vitesse, very wide, very expensive

17" unknown wheel (Anyone?)

Image

16" AC Schnitzer BMW wheels, polished

14" Tramont classic (?)

16" BBS RC's

And my favorites, at the time of posting :D :

16" Porsche Carrera 2 (design 90) wheels, polished

will this rub? and will there be need for any work on the arches? :?

The BMW polished no. is looking nice, maybe just coz its the same colour of car as mine.... in saying that the unknown ones look good too!

Damm!

Try to get 7x16 instead of 7,5 to be safe. The stretched tyre (on a wider wheel) may still catch on the archliners.

On the wheel choice: I'd leave the big generic wheels alone. I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers here, but I think that in 5 years from now, we'll all agree that the Porsche, PLS, Brock, WRD, Schmidt and Schnitzer wheels still look classy. I know I won't be saying the same about TSW wheels (pick any model). Remember the Venoms? Image

His car is the bomb. I think they are a bit more affordable then Revo th's, to name the closest thing. PM him if you want to know exactly.
