I've been down the scrappy and cannot find any 8v polo foglights so I've decided to go for after market ones:

The 8V polo foglights seem to be pretty rare. I'd be careful with aftermarket lights, make sure that they're the right dimensions to fit where you want them on the car. Ie, the right height to go inside the lower plastic grille....

Are you aware that with foglights you're going to need all the wiring, a new headlight switch to operate them and also a new lower grille?
I had mine from VW, cost £250 or there abouts for everything, switch, lights, wiring, grille etc.

£250, that's 10% of the value of my car if not more. Quite a bit out of my budget I'm afraid. I might have to stick to aftermarket ones with a switch.

Chris,
Yep I planned on having a solid earth connection with a relay switched by the rear fog or full beam to switch the direct live connection.
