Guess what I just put in my car...?

... diesel Ultimate!
I pulled up at BP thinking I was going to put in greener, but there was the blue pump.. I was grinning as I was filling up, they must have thought I was mad.
I know it will take a tank or two to have an effect, but hey!
I tried Shell too, but I think it felt a bit slower and smelt funny.

Is that the Diesel equivalent of the Optimax type fuel? If so, you guys are pretty lucky getting all the good stuff...

Yep, it's supposed to boost MPG and performance, didn't find out about the petrol though, whether it's 98 RON or 100 RON.
But I guess the best way to use it is having the ECU adjusted

Haven't come across that yet, but will make a point of looking the next time I fill up. The trouble is that at 500 miles a tank, filling up doesn't actually happen that often
I tried the Super Unleaded stuff (Optimax etc) in my old Polo GTi and although it felt a little sportier, the mpg was no different and at 5p per litre more, it was an expensive luxury.
What was the price difference on this super diesel stuff?

If I remember right, it was 78.8p

Cool! Since I have a fuel card that my company pays for, I'll have to give it a try.
Now all I have to do is find a BP garage that sells it. I am a bit confused though, as I thought it was Shell that sold the unleaded Optimax, not BP. Perhaps it is a generic label (like "four star").
Disregard above! (note to self, rtfm!!)

Damn, b*gger,
There I was last night all set to fill up and I thought I'll look up BP Ultimate, checked the web site - seemed interesting, already interested from comments above, checked the stations doing it - Great my local does it, go to the BP NO diesel Ultimate !! gutted, fill up with normal (noticed recently many pumps have wet handles - wet with DIESEL, yuk) - get back to work, check the website and Ohh its only the M25 region and motorways that have it !! Come on BP put it out everywhere !!!!
You lucky southerners !!! Still the traffic ain't nearly so bad up here eh!!
Cheers
Rob

Have to say nearly at the end of the tank and the MPG seems poor, 41.4 MPG

That's pretty terrible. I guess you're normally up around 50? Have you been flooring it around testing the new go go juice perhaps

?
MPG is more important to me than performance, so it doesn't look worth it....

My MPG will never be great as I do constant stop start driving, switch on/off etc. Although I am filling up every two weeks so it's not too bad!
I guess it will get better with age

Found the BP garage at Petersfield (just off the A3) supplies this, and as I have to fill up every other day, I'll give it a try for a couple of weeks.
Don't really have to worry about the consumption, but if my heavy right foot likes it, I might stick to it
I'll try and track consumption anyway though, just for comparison's sake

...just to be a little 'devilish'

- fuel here costs 0.38p/L (current exchange rate) - few months ago it was 0.25p - but the ZAR gained strength.

I'm so tempted to keep putting this stuff in especially after looking at the leaflet that explains it all, it's supposed to keep the fuel system cleaner.
After 2 or so tanks it definitely seems quieter, maybe it's my imagination but economy seems to have suffered a tad, and performance is only a fraction better. But it's an unfair test, the car is still running in

How do you know you got the correct fuel? So the blue ultimate is the diesel and not the unleaded? I thought blue was unleaded!

Coz it hasn't broken down!!
Seriously, there are blue pumps for diesel and petrol ultimate. Should say on it, and of course the higher price.
