any ideas on an erratic idol? it sounds like im revving the car! usually idolsaround 1x100 but now it goes from 1X100 up to 2X100 then back down and back up etc! its not a Vacuum leak or anything however when the butterfly valve is held down it seems to stop any ideas?? thanks holly

Might be your Idle Control Valve?

its your throttle body.

mabye ur ECU thinkin ur car needs more fuel so its openin the buterfly, rest it 2 c if it settles, disconnect ur negative wire from the battery an leave the live connected over nite an then inda morinin connet if up again an ur car shud adjust correctly...but im not sure thats the soloution for ur problem just a theroy

mine wasnt setteling it had mind of its own untill i changed the oil - it was well overdue and i cleaned the throttle body it was full of black stuff (carbon i think) its fine now had a new lease of life so much smoother after the oil change too.

cheers for all the comments ill try what u guys said and last resort new throttle body! reallly hope its not that just had to cash out £130 for new brake pads n disks!
