Out of curiousity, is it possible to get a plug for this and run it to a computer at home? so I can check for faults myself? as the garage I got my car told me there are no faults, but I do not quite believe them :D

You need a laptop and a Vagcom Cable, which you can buy off the Bay, think it will come with an Early version of vag com, then you plug and Play.

But be warned about f*****g about with it, can wreak havoc if you aint carful!

why will it? I bought the VAG-COM lead from ebay for £13 which cam with some evaluation software and drivers for both windows and mac :/ I know the evaluation software won't go into any details if there is a fault, but at least you can see if you have any faults :D
