G40 Running Issues

hey everyone

for some time now, the G has had some running problems. when the car is warm and is turned on, she won't idle and sometimes cuts out. this also occured sometimes when driving, dropping the clutch and the revs would drop off. this occurs all year round. hot and cold weather.

this all started when i changed the spark plugs for the correct ones fitted to G40's.

as a first point of call, i changed the blue temperature sensor but this didn't make any difference! is there anything else it could be?

as an experiment, i have turned back to the spark plugs that were in the car when i bought it, as it turns out, they are the plugs for a GT. so far, she hasn't had any problems.

is there any explaination to this? any thoughts or comments are welcome!

.cracks fingers< i know the answer to this one my friend. right you know the co pot? the thing on the boost pipe near the throttle body. it has a little blue cap on it? right take that off. remove the blue cap. using a multi meter check the resistance. its range is 1-2000 ohms. it should read between 400-600 ohms. to check it use connections 1 and 3. theyre actually labeled on the plastic. then with the blue cap removed you will see an adjustment screw. use this to alter the resistance. expect to turn it about 20 times if its way out.

this fixed those symptoms on mine and delg40's. and yours soon.

as for the plugs. you have the wrong ones. the co pot may have been adjusted to compensate for the difference in plugs. put the g40 ones back in and put the co pot to 500ohms. i bet its spot on

Plugs should be W5DPO and nothing else.

CO pot should be set as Spaniel said.

There's a Digifant troubleshooting guide on Club Polo in the Technical FAQ section, which is bloody useful. Check the blue temp sender resistance against the values in there.

My 2p is that your lambda might be at fault. Unplug it - if it runs better, then buy a new one. If you Google 'Just Lambda' they're the cheapest place I could find for Bosch lambda probes.

well, i checked out the CO pot and the resistance read well over 1000 ohms. i've now set it to 500ohms, and put the Correct plugs back in and it runs perfectly now!

Thanks for all your help guys! i'm so glad its sorted now! it was getting annoying! :P

oh, and i change the blue temp sensor some time ago, that was my first port of call!
