I am looking for a new head unit.
What ones do you recommend.
I am thinking of a ALPINE or PIONEER?

depend on your budget but if you can i would get the Alpine 9812RB, its an Mp3 player with 4x60W and its silly fun to play with, we (halfords) sell it for £349.99
if thats too much we sell the 9807RB just basically a model down from the above but still the same power and still Mp3 but for just £249.99
also from November the 1st the halfords in Warrington will offer free fitting on a hands free kit (which are awesome) at the same time as fitting a stereo,
hands free kits are only £99.99 and plug into the headunits and work with the cars speakers

However take those prices from halfords and go shopping online and you'll notice you can get your self a bargain on line, no offence to halfords I have all due respect to them!

ahhhhhh but how do you know that the headunit you buy off line isn't second hand and just reconditioned and also what type of warranty do you get with it when you buy it as with halfords stuff you get a:-
12 month alpine warranty for parts
12 month alpine warranty for labour
12 month halfords warranty for parts
12 month halfords warranty for labour of fitting should it be fitted

If the box isn't sealed, send it back!
www.mcs-direct.co.uk offer good prices, it's where I've bought a lot of my kit from. They offer 2 years warranty on head units IIRC.

No offence Pheonix but that's the same comment I get from every Car HiFi place regarding mail order.
I think Trading Standards, Credit Card Companies etc etc etc would be very interested to hear from anyone who has bought anything mail order thinking it was new which turned out to be second hand, refurbished stock or generally not as advertised.
I've used litterelly hundreds of mail order and internet companies to buy all manner of things ranging from a Dishwasher, Kamai Mesh Grill, PC Monitor, Car HiFi, Amateur Radio, Mobile Phones etc etc etc... I have NEVER had any problems with any of them.
Sorry if I sound like I'm having a rant (I'm not), but the reason mail order/internet only shops can sell stuff so cheap has nothing to do with the stock being bad, it's just that they don't have to hold stock, have no display stock, don't have to have large fancy premises etc.
/rant

I totally agree with Josh,
Here are some sites I have used before:
www.mcs-direct.co.uk
www.onestopcaraudio.co.uk
obviously there will be some dodgy sites out there, but you just have to use your common sense and judgement.

gotta agree-mail order is good.
but if u want to buy from a shop, use a decent stereo shop-will always beat halfords on price and will be more knowledgeable and helpful to ur needs

ok i will agree with you on prices but for knowledge come on just coz the sign says halfords doesnt mean we're s**t
i know loads about systems and setting them up, every cruiser in warrington knows me and comes to me for help with their audio gear, we're not all a bunch of idiots.
everyone who works in the warrington branch is a cruiser (except manager) so we know what we're on about.
