Soft Suspension

I know this has probably been asked before but i am searching through all previous posts and im way over my head lol.

Bascially the situation is i have a 1.4 8V Polo Match, but the suspension is so soft its untrue, it rolls in corners a lot and i dont enjoy driving it for this reason. I understand that its not a fast car and shouldnt be driven like one but its rolls at moderate speed in any corners. I have been considering selling it for a Peugeot 306 which i know handles much better and is a lot stiffer all round but as the car only has 11k on the clock it seems like a shame to sell it. What im wondering is what is the easiest way to stiffen up the car whilst keeping it as standard as possible. Im not too bothered it is has to be lowered a little but i dont want change too much.

Thanks in advance for your answers

A decent set of shocks and springs should set you back between GBP250 and GBP400. Even the standard set up of a 16v should be a slight improvement (if it will fit - different front hubs I think, don't know if that would affect).

I swapped my 306 for a Polo 6n 16v. From the point of view that nothing went wrong with the 6n over the year I had it and that things were always going on the 306 (a Friday car I think - we've had three or four Peugeots in the past without any trouble at all), I made the right decision. From the point of view of driving enjoyment, the 306 was streets ahead of the Polo.

This is a personal opinion and I may well get shot down by a lot of people on here, but I tend not to find VWs satisfying to drive. Even my 9n with H&R suspension isn't as much fun as the 306 was. But it's faster, more reliable, safer, quieter etc.

You pays your money...

So you think I would only need shocks and springs? I didnt know if there would be anything else i would need. Are there any brands you would reccomend in particular? Also the cost estimates you gave are for parts only yeah?

Thanks for the reply

Also i agree with you about VW being not so fun to drive, i have driven golf GTI and Polo Gti and both were not as i expected, i think it may be down to them being so refined, as peugeot is rattly and rough but i find so fun to drive

a set of aftermarket springs will lower the amount of body roll you have. thats all i am using and its fine. shouldnt be more than £100

Hi yes i see you have your car up for sale, i was thinking of doing same, how much difference did you aftermarket springs make? Also what brand did you go with?

Thanks

i know exactly what you mean about the amount of bodyroll. i have mines only lowered 35 or so, and it really cut out the bodyroll. the car is not fast and doesn't get driven fast, but it feels alot smoother when cornering. Amust have if modding on a budget mate. i think my springs are g max. i'd have to check my reciepts. had them on a good year now.
