Right, my mate has just brought some decks and mixer etc of his mate and set them up in his room. I went round to have a play and wanna get into it.
Go round my sisters house an her boyfriend has just paid 500 for some technics mk 5's.
I dont wanna be left out and have been searching for a cheap set up.
Just wondering if any one else on uk polo's has an interest in this and has their own decks, style, gigs etc.
I am looking to buy some kam bdx280's and a Gemini bpm150 mixer for just under a ton, is this a good deal ??
Cheers

Try your best to save up for some used Technics mate... £500 and they'll last you for however long you want them to, and when you come to sell them, you'll get 500 quid for them
If you get sh-t decks and a crappy mixer, your mixing will suffer... Plus if you get good on the crappy kit, if you then ever get the chance to mix at a club on Technics, it'll be like starting over again (you'll be used to touching the records too much to keep them in check, which you don't need to do anywhere near as much on Technics).
I used to mix Jungle / Drum & Bass years ago and I've played at a few decent clubs.
Have a look on eBay... There's always a few decent sets on there.

Technics 1210's are rock solid, but in my opinion a set of Vestax PDX 2000's are better, they are just as solid and you can do more with them there is soooo much Pitch on them and reverse play
there are newer PDX models out now, but still pretty much the same as the orginal 2000's

I dont want to sound like a D***head mate and im not trying to force my opinion on you, but you are wasting your time AND YOUR MONEY with a budget like that
Belt drive decks are pooo (a complete waste of time), youd be better of with CD ones
At least try to get some second hand Direct drive ones (although even these are a Toy compared to the Technics and Vestax decks)

No mate i completely understand what you mean now iv read around etc,
Im getting some direct drives and a mixer with beat matching and all that jazz.
Will work my way up to technics if i stick at it but might be one of those passing crazes that always seem to get jammed in my ed !!!

Well done mate
i only said cos ive been there with belt drive decks and i thorougly regretted it, ended up buying decent decks/mixer in the end anyway.
It's very addictive, and youll grow out of your budget decks on no time
