I just got back from hols last night so popped round to see Dirty_Engineer, so far not much has been done, but he's waiting on parts to arrive from germany.

The one thing he has done, which i have to say is mighty impressive i think, is create a new boot floor, originally it was just a piece of shoddy carpet, and he has over the last week gradually in his spare time built this:

Despite knowing it would be a good job, i was mightily impressed with this, perfectly fits round all the curves and looks neat as hell, easy access and hides the spare wheel as well.

More to come, we've got alot of work to do (mainly minor things) most of which are getting it back to complete original state, he's got an original radio on it's way, we're looking for a similiar or original aerial, got some door cards to come and need to sort the door window out and some other bits that have stopped working.

Why is it all mk1s have a tatty bit of carpet in the boot? Must be the old boys that own them, mine had a lovely piece of rotting axminster in it.

That looks like a job well done, might help reduce exhaust noise in the cabin a little too.

Today, Dirty_Engineer and i helped each other out on a few bits with each others cars but he was mainly sorting his MK1's rear bumper out. The rear bumper had.. for some reason or another been painted several times with normal black house paint, which after many coats has left a rather horrible tatty looking bumper.

We went and dropped by homebase and brought some paint stripper and he started to apply it, although it doesnt look new by any standards and is alot darker than the original light grey, we intend to rub it down with wet & dry and colour match it properly.

ahh jeez, i look like a right freak, oh well just living up to my name, dirty is as dirty does!!, i think i must have spent a good 2 hours on that bumper, im absolutely knackered! oh well more work tomorrow, i cant wait for those parts to arrive so i can sort the door and window out and get some decent door cards in

does anybody know what the widest wheels/alloys i can have on my mk1 are?, that is without arch work or being illegal

8s with an offset of roughly +10, maybe a bit more, but i dont know if this will catch on the suspension

Today we got the stripped bumper back onto the rear of the polo, will post pictures in a mo.

right ho, 8" with a +10 offset, cheers for that, wildchild keeps telling me all sorts of sizes so i keep getting confused!! should be geting some new door cards soon, light blue i hear, personally im not convinced they will look good, but getting hold of door cards is hard so il take any i can get, also looking forward to getting the window winder mechanism fr my drivers side door, currently my window is taped at the top to stop rain getting in!! im really enjoying driving it ive had it the road for two days now, nice changeafter driving my piece of sh*t Fiat Panda!! looks a hell of a lot beter than the fiat too
